Following the opening of its first berth in April 1997, Nabeta Pier Container Terminal started full-fledged operation in April 2001, utilizing two consecutive berths as one . Responding to the increased cargo volume, the yard on the east side of Berth No. 1 was expanded in April 2009. A third berth is being developed with the aim of starting operation in 2011.
This terminal handles mainly Chinese and Korean cargo and accounts for approximately 1/3 of the total container cargo volume handled at the Port of Nagoya. It has one of the best facility operation rates in the world.
Berth No. 2 (public berth) has an earthquake resistant design, together with gantry cranes, and a container yard with anti-liquefaction features. With this structure, Berth No. 2 will ensure international maritime distribution functions in the event of disasters. |
